AN EVOLUTIONARY PERSPECTIVE ON HUMAN HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

The Paleobiotics Lab is an independent research group exploring the evolution of diet and nutrition and it’s possible relevance to understanding modern health and well-being among humans.

More specifically, what is the effect of modern diet on our intestinal microflora. Has shifting from the nutritional landscape upon which our genome was selected – and the genomes of the thousands of species of microbes that inhabit our bodies selected as well – changed in ways that have created an imbalance in the once symbiotic relationship between human and microbes to cause disease. Are modern disease such as heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, autism, irritable bowel disease, osteoporosis and so on, linked in some way to our changing human ecology and its impact on our microbiome?
